The California Air Resources Board (CARB) released a competitive grant solicitation on July 14, 2023, to fund the purchase and demonstration of emerging zero-emission transportation technologies. The solicitation made available up to $225 million in total funding to support advanced technology demonstration and pilot projects across multiple vehicle categories.
Funding allocation includes up to $175 million from CARB for the purchase and demonstration of zero-emission off-road vehicles, marine vessels, and green zone vehicles. Within this allocation, $60 million is carve-outed specifically for Commercial Harbor Craft (CHC) Regulatory Compliance vessels. Additionally, the California Energy Commission (CEC) may provide up to $50 million in partnership with CARB for the purchase and installation of supporting infrastructure for the resulting CARB projects.
The solicitation encompasses emerging opportunities in zero-emission aviation, locomotive, and marine vehicles, as well as off-road and green zone vehicles. Eligible applicants may seek funding for vehicle purchase and demonstration, as well as related infrastructure development necessary to support the deployment and operation of these zero-emission technologies.
