Battery Storage Adjustable Racking System

This procurement is for an adjustable racking system designed to safely house densely packed lead-acid, Ni-CAD, and heavy lithium-ion aircraft batteries without structural buckling. The solicitation requires contractors to submit brand name or equal responses to the Stanley Vidmar 2K STAK Adjustable Racking System, including two complete reduced-height, heavy-duty systems with industrial storage pallets, back-lip features, installation, and compliance with building and safety codes.

The systems must be configured in a back-to-back orientation as a single deep-storage structural unit with a total height accommodating between 6-7 feet. Each system comprises four rows and four columns for sixteen storage compartments, with 100% extension roll-out pallets accessible by forklift. Each pallet measures 52 inches wide by 48 inches deep with a 2,000-pound load capacity. The requirement also includes one complete set of top frames and cross-bracing structurally connecting the two systems, heavy-duty front column protectors for all exposed uprights, and on-site installation.

Compliance requirements are extensive and include the current edition of the California Building Code (Title 24, Part 2), ASCE 7 Section 15.5.3 for nonbuilding structures, ANSI MH16.1/MH16.3 (Rack Manufacturers Institute specifications), and multiple OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926.441 for battery electrolyte resistance, 29 CFR 1910.176(b) for secure storage, and 29 CFR 1910.159 for fire sprinkler clearance). The contractor must certify that all racking and roll-out pallet assemblies are designed in accordance with ANSI MH16.1 and AWS structural welding codes. System uprights must be anchored to the floor slab per manufacturer specifications, and high-visibility load plaques detailing the 2,000-pound shelf capacity must be permanently affixed to each bay.
