Chemical Water Treatment Services for Glenarm Power Plant

The City of Pasadena Water & Power Department (PWP) is seeking qualified Chemical Consultants to manage and optimize water treatment processes at the Glenarm Power Plant, a natural-gas fueled generation facility located in Pasadena, California. The plant operates five combustion turbines: GT1 and GT2 (1974 era Curtiss-Wright simple cycle units), GT3 and GT4 (modern GE LM6000 simple cycle units), and GT5 (GE LM6000 combined cycle unit equipped with a Shin Nippon Steam Turbine and once-through steam generator). The combined capacity is approximately 197 megawatts of electricity.

The facility operates multiple water systems requiring chemical treatment and management. GT5 includes a cooling tower providing circulating cooling water to the steam-turbine condenser and a closed loop bearing cooling water system. Units GT3 and GT4 have cooling towers providing circulating cooling water to chillers and auxiliary equipment cooling. City water serves as make-up water for cooling towers on GT3, GT4, and GT5. The plant operates a water conditioning system using reverse osmosis (RO) processes to condition water for GT5 once-through steam generator condensate cycle make-up, gas turbine evaporator cooler make-up, gas turbine sprint systems, and water injection for NOx reduction.
