Detroit Powerhouse Transformer Oil Pumps and Motors Purchase

The U.S. Government, through this Purchase Description (PD), is soliciting bids for the procurement of twelve (12) centrifugal pumps with induction motors specifically designed for transformer oil circulation at the Detroit Powerhouse. The existing pumps, original to the facility and over 70 years old, are exhibiting signs of end-of-serviceable life, including abnormal bearing noise, vibration, and degradation of motor insulation and windings. This procurement is critical to maintaining transformer cooling and insulation, preventing loss of power generation and potential equipment damage, and supporting downstream water quality conditions for fish habitat.

The scope requires a strict zero-leakage design due to the use of transformer oil and outdoor installation. Each pump/motor combination must meet exact replacement specifications: centrifugal type, 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 size, 4-1/2 inch impeller, 50 feet head, 160 gallons per minute flow, with heavy-duty class 30 cast iron construction and protective coatings. The motor must be a TA type, frame size 180, 5 HP, 3500 RPM, 460V-480V, 3-phase, 60 Hz, with Class F insulation and continuous duty cycle. All internal elastomers must be Viton with confined groove arrangements, and Buna N gaskets for flanges.
