Efficiency Maine Trust is seeking applications for energy storage system deployments through a performance-based incentive program targeting summer peak demand reduction. The program is open to all demand metered customers including commercial businesses, nonprofits, institutions, and government entities. Eligible projects must be interconnected behind the facility utility meter and located in Maine with a Maine electric utility account.
Eligible energy storage systems must meet strict technical specifications including a minimum capacity of 20 kW, maintain at least 80 percent round-trip efficiency, be capable of collecting and transmitting 15-minute interval data, carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and be UL-listed or certified by another nationally recognized testing laboratory. Systems must be approved by the Trust prior to installation. Grid export configurations are not permitted. All awarded systems will require a formal contract with Efficiency Maine.
Incentives are structured as performance-based payments awarded annually for 5 years following evaluation of the project's performance during summer peak demand conditions. The incentive rate is $200 per kilowatt of validated reduction in grid-supplied power, calculated as average load reduction achieved across fifteen (15) dispatches during summer peak demand conditions. Annual incentive awards will range from a minimum of $4,000 to a maximum of $600,000 per project per year for the full 5-year period.
