Feed-In Tariff I: Clean Solar Initiative FIT

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Board of Trustees established the Clean Solar Initiative Feed-In Tariff I (FIT I) by resolution on June 28, 2012. This program was designed to support the development of distributed solar photovoltaic resources across Long Island, New York. The FIT I program was codified under service classification SC-11 and set a target of interconnecting up to 50 megawatts (MW) of solar generation capacity through individual power purchase agreements.

Accepted applicants under FIT I received a fixed price of $0.22 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for all electricity generated. Each participant entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with LIPA, providing long-term revenue certainty for solar project developers and owners. The program was structured as a feed-in tariff, meaning eligible solar systems could sell their entire output at the predetermined rate without needing to compete in a traditional RFP process.

The FIT I program is now closed and is no longer accepting new applications. All available capacity was fully subscribed during the active enrollment period. No further solicitations or application windows are anticipated under this specific tariff. The program served as an early driver for solar deployment on Long Island and has since been succeeded by later feed-in tariff programs (FIT II through FIT V) with different terms and eligibility criteria.
