First Nations Electricity Program 2026

The First Nations Electricity Program (FNEP) is a joint initiative administered by New Relationship Trust (NRT) and BC Hydro to support small-scale, First Nations-led clean energy projects across British Columbia. Funded by a $140 million endowment provided by the B.C. Government in 2023, the program expands the B.C. Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative while addressing growing power demand and limiting impacts on BC Hydro ratepayers.

Successful applicants will enter into a funding agreement with NRT and an Electricity Purchase Agreement with BC Hydro. The program supports First Nations communities in advancing governance, economic development, education, clean energy initiatives, food sovereignty, and long-term self-determination through clean energy project development.

Key program dates include information sessions on program elements and process scheduled for June to July 2026, followed by the issuance of a "What We Heard" report and key documents in August to September 2026. The procurement period is scheduled for fall 2026 through early 2027, with Electricity Purchase Agreements to be awarded in fall 2027.
