The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is seeking qualified firms to submit proposals for the design, procurement, and installation of new residential and small commercial photovoltaic (solar) systems as part of a bulk purchasing group buy program. The program aims to lower prices for participants through coordinated procurement efforts.
The MREA will coordinate and deliver a minimum of six free, public Solar Power Hour information sessions marketed through email blasts, paid social media promotion, promotional partnerships, and press releases. These presentations will be offered as a combination of webinars and in-person events. While the program is geographically open to residents in all bordering counties, outreach and event focus will be concentrated in DeWitt and McLean counties in Illinois. Firms should be prepared to provide distance adders for surrounding counties if necessary.
Key dates for this procurement include an RFP questions deadline of March 20, 2026, with responses posted the same day. Formal RFP proposals are due April 3, 2026, with the selected firm announced in April 2026. The MREA has facilitated over 70 similar Solar Group Buy programs around the Midwest since 2013, reaching over 14,500 individuals through Solar Power Hour sessions and resulting in more than 24,900 kW of solar installations across over 3,400 properties.
Proposals should address design and installation capabilities for residential and small commercial photovoltaic systems. The MREA values highly-credentialed electricians on staff and encourages integration of energy efficiency upgrades (home energy efficiency improvements such as insulation and air sealing) alongside solar installations. Interested firms should consult the complete RFP document for detailed specifications, evaluation criteria, and submission requirements.
