Serenola Substation Fence Installation

This project involves the installation of a high-security perimeter fence at the Serenola Substation to establish robust physical deterrent against intruders and trespassers. The installation will encompass the broader property boundary, creating a secondary layer of defense as part of critical infrastructure protection strategy for Alachua County's power grid. The scope includes installation of approximately 7-foot high chain-link fabric fencing and two 20-foot-wide custom gates positioned on either side of the substation, engineered with an 85-foot setback from the road to allow for safe vehicle queuing and secured using heavy-duty industrial padlocks.

The Serenola Substation property was historically protected by a full perimeter fence that managed site access and secured utility assets. During construction and expansion of SW 40th Blvd, the original fencing was removed to accommodate the new roadway. Since thoroughfare completion, the property has remained unfenced, leaving grounds open to the public and creating a significant security vacuum. GRU has experienced sustained increase in unauthorized activity including trespassing, vandalism, homeless encampments, fire incidents, and other illicit activities threatening both public safety and operational integrity of the substation.

The selected vendor must demonstrate documented experience in energized utility environments and strong understanding of physical security standards. The partner must be able to execute precise grounding and bonding protocols and maintain strict safety standards throughout construction phase. This project represents a vital investment in GRU's 10-year capital plan and offers opportunity for quality vendor to support long-term resilience of regional utility infrastructure.
