Tollway 34kV Switchgear Building

The City of Naperville is seeking qualified contractors to supply and construct a new masonry building to house 34.5kV indoor switchgear and associated control equipment at the Tollway Substation. The building has been designed by others and detailed specifications and drawings will be provided to bidders. This project addresses recurring 34.5kV bus flashovers caused by salt spray contamination from the adjacent tollway that forms on bus insulators. Regular cleaning has proven ineffective and labor-intensive. By relocating the 34.5kV switchgear indoors, the City aims to eliminate salt spray exposure and reduce maintenance requirements.

Key project dates include a pre-proposal meeting on February 24, 2026 at 3:00 PM, a questions and answers deadline of March 5, 2026 at 6:00 AM, and a proposal submission deadline of March 16, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
