San Diego Community Power (SDCP) seeks a firm (or firms) to provide Debt Collection Services as part of SDCP's overall strategy to secure long term financial viability, resiliency and competitiveness by minimizing bad debts. The selected firm will perform services including: accepting referrals for non-residential customers for collection and settlement, filing credit reporting information when directed, making contact with delinquent accounts, submitting monthly status reports and annual reports, ensuring data confidentiality and security, performing work in accordance with the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and all applicable laws, providing recommendations on reducing future bad debt, maintaining accurate records, and obtaining approval for any settlements. SDCP's Collections & Delinquency Accounts Handling Policy establishes the criteria by which a debt collection agency may attempt to recover bad debts on behalf of SDCP. The policy currently applies only to non-residential customers (approximately 70,000 accounts), but may be expanded to include residential customers in the future (potentially increasing to approximately 930,000 customer accounts).
